Ethan Guthman is an Associate Attorney in the Chicago office of McCoy Leavitt Laskey LLC. Ethan is an accomplished attorney whose practice focuses on products liability, construction, transportation, fire, and explosion litigation. His cases involve extensive property damage, serious injury, and death. Ethan represents utilities, manufacturers, national retailers and transportation companies in state and federal courts nationwide. He has been admitted to practice law in Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Ethan works with his clients on all aspects of litigation including pre-litigation investigation and strategy, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, and alternative dispute resolution. 

Ethan received his Bachelor of Science in Consumer Economics with a minor in International Relations from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2015. He attended The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Law (formerly The John Marshall Law School) and received his Juris Doctor in 2019. During law school, Ethan successfully competed in multiple mock trial competitions, served as a teaching assistant for Property Law, and worked as a law clerk in the Criminal Appeals Division of the Cook County State’s Attorney's Office. 

Prior to joining McCoy Leavitt Laskey LLC, Ethan practiced at several Chicago law firms where he gained valuable experience litigating numerous cases towards successful outcomes on both the plaintiff and defense side of personal injury law. In his prior practice as a civil defense attorney, Ethan defended against claims in matters including medical malpractice, products liability, premises liability, transportation, and construction negligence. 

Ethan currently lives in Chicago with his wife Jamie and his dog Archie. They enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. In his free time, Ethan enjoys collecting sports cards, playing chess, and reading philosophy.
